DS Auto Ltd

Family values go a long way in Derryl and Tanja Henman's business. They pride themselves on Kiwi know-how and a 'can do' attitude earning the trust of the Nelson community.

Being in a business that has been situated in the same place for three decades and meeting new people every day has been a thrill.

Our workshop was built in the mid-1940s, making this one of the Nelson region’s oldest workshops still in use today. We’ve been MTA members since the current business was started in the 1990s. We’re a family business. Derryl’s been in the automotive industry since he started his apprenticeship at 16, Tanja is our customers’ main point of contact and our son Tom is a qualified auto technician.

Being family-operated, we tend to share the family values with our customers and staff members.

We’re a trusted and recommended business, and we take a great deal of pride in that. Good value for money is important – the DS in our name stands for Damned good Service!

We are still the same solid company that we were when we started. We still fix cars and have a WoF testing station, but also sell classic cars and caravans, and have a small rental operation.

Not only are we a full mechanical workshop, but we have the latest scan tool technology, so we can work on almost any type of vehicle.

We pride ourselves on keeping the ‘good old New Zealand know-how, can-do’ attitude. A rule for our business is to have good, hard-working staff who look after the customers and the business.

Like any local business, we strive to give the best service possible, and we hope to see the business grow for a further 30 years.
