Tony Everett – Sector Manager – Dealers
Meet Tony, our dealer and mediation specialist who has been with MTA since 2004. He looks after MTA’s advocacy activities relating to the dealer sector and the retail vehicle market. Tony participates in the preparation of MTA submissions on related legislative measures being considered by government. He also manages the Dealer Advisory Group (which includes dealer representatives from the new, used and motorcycle sectors). The Advisory Group serve as the ‘go-to’ guys for MTA to draw input, ideas and guidance from as MTA defines its stance on the issues that confront the industry.
Life in the motor industry started for Tony in 1980 when he joined General Motors (GM) in Upper Hutt. During this time, he worked in a range of positions including engineering, finance and personnel, before ending up as their Dealer Development Manager. In 2000, Tony joined Marac Finance (again working with dealers). He then went on to take an F&I role with a local Holden dealership before joining MTA. As Tony freely admits, his extensive industry background equips him well for the tasks he now confronts.

Graeme Swan – Sector Manager – Repairer
Meet Graeme, he's our repairer specialist. Graeme looks after our general repairers, collision repairers, auto electricians and vehicle recovery operators.
Graeme has spent his entire professional life in the Automotive industry. Starting out as an apprentice mechanic in 1997 before gaining his National Certificate in Automotive Engineering and working at a number of Wellington dealerships and independent garages. In 2006 Graeme started working in Vehicle Compliance section of NZ Transport Agency where he specialised in used entry, repair and low volume vehicle compliance. Graeme went back into the industry as a service manager for an Audi, VW and Subaru dealership in 2013 before joining MTA in 2014.

Ian Baggott – Sector Manager – Energy and Environment
Meet Ian, he's our energy and environment specialist. Ian is a mechanical engineer and a certified welding engineer by trade and started his career as an engineering cadet with the NZ Railways Corporation working in the mechanical testing laboratory at the Woburn workshops in Lower Hutt.
He then spent about 15 years working in the petrochemical and heavy engineering sector for international inspection company SGS where he carried out safety inspections and conditioning monitoring on hazardous equipment including upstream petrochemical processing plants as well as bulk fuel storage terminals.
Ian has also worked at NZ Transport Agency for 10 years managing the technical services team supporting vehicle inspectors and specialist certifiers apply the regulatory inspections of the Land Transport Rules. Prior to joining MTA in 2017 Ian spent a couple of years at the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority as part of the heavy vehicle fuel efficiency programme and the start of the electric vehicle programme.
